Thread: Trying to liven the place up!

Default Trying to liven the place up!

Been a while since I posted but this place is so dead I felt compelled to! I miss the day's message boards were alive and well!

The last couple of years I've been priding myself on not just catching fish but being a fisherman. Honing in on angling skills and not resting until I felt I've given myself the best chance for success! Fishing can definitely be about relaxing and enjoying the lake, but I wanted to become a pro on my home water. With the reports of juvenile fish, and slow days, I feel like I've done that as I've been able to consistently put good fish in the boat. Here's a few pics of the last couple weeks.

We have made 3 trips and have had limits each day and all nice fish, I've heard the complaints on the Radio about the little fish but we have been lucky. Those are nice fish you caught. Going down Sunday hope we can get lucky again.

Sorry "liketrolling" gotta click on em. I'm too lazy to try and figure out which link actually works hahaha. We're fishing close to the tornados of boats but not too close

Were able to keep another 8 for the smoker today between 2.5 and 3.25 lbs while as safely as we could releasing the others.

The Gorge is definitely fishing like 2 lakes right now. Up North is fishing great and nice chunky fish while down South can be a real struggle for quality fish.

Dave, We always fish north out of Buckboard. Tried down south a few times and always scored smaller fish on the Utah side. Always score the bigger ones north. Of course we are only able to fish the Gorge once a year. Just my experience of fishing their thru the years. Pat and Cindy

I never minded the difference in size when the south end still produced 2.5 - 3.0 pounders on a regular basis. This year just hasn't been that way, for us. This year has forced me out of my comfort zone and making me learn a different part of the lake.

I had my day of getting humbled today. I guess everyone gets a turn. Landed 4. One fish over 3 lbs was it. Decided I better get home and get the smoker rolling before I got sunburnt and the tubers started running around. Beautiful day out on the big pond though! Not a breath of wind.

Had a day this last week where I couldn’t get a fish to the boat without it spitting the lure. By days end I wanted to sell all my fishing gear. (Almost but not really) Will get them next time.

WHOA! Never had that happen, guess the Koke gods like to chase you off the pond when the bite is on! Have some pretty good dibits on my ride from trying to stay out on the big pond to late!

Hahahaha! Yea I have a 16 footer. I've put it through the paces and proved she's sea worthy. Zigzagging across the lake in high swells has been necessary a few times and now a days the only time I get real nervous is loading it by myself in those big swells.

I left a glassy flaming gorge at noon! I had previously told a good number of family members that I'd have smoked salmon ready by 6 so I figured I'd better go!

I am with you Trent, the boards (except ice shanty) seem to get way less traffic these days. I blame facebook

I would have reported that I have been killing the Kokes at Fontenelle for 5 weeks or so, lots of 2.5-3.5 pound fish (with a 6 fish limit)...but nobody looks at the page anyways.....

I'm hearing that more and more these days - that folks are flocking to fb and not using forums anymore. And since I don't/WON'T do fb, I guess I'll be left out in the cold on a lot of good fishing intel. Sad; really!

I'm with you Dave! I have been hammering them as of late on New Fork which makes me happy but they are small fish (14-15") for this region by comparison. Hard to complain about our 12 fish limit in under 3 hours when you don't leave the house until 9 am lol.

Even when forums were in their day, reports rarely provided detailed intel. Having a network of friends that fish the same water seems to be the best source for intel IMO. Forums have provided some meaningful relationships to create such a network.

I actually prefer the forums over facebook myself, much easier to keep info organized and search for things, plus I like the more personal touch of the forums.
