From what I saw posted in the Idaho Kokanee Fishing Facebook page the numbers were amazing but really small fish.

    Default Fished Deadwood

I fished deadwood Monday and Tuesday
The fish are very small 7 to 10 inches about the diameter of a quarter
I went in through cape horn and went out Scott mountain with no problems
the first 10 miles of the cape horn road is rough and very slow going--Scott mountain is always rough in spots
Take a chain saw with you just in case. There are several trees on the road marked kookanee everyware 30 to 40 ft deep

    Default Deadwood Fishing

My wife and I camped at Deadwood all last week (7/5-7/10). Fished everyday. And yes, they are still very small. Still a fun camping trip though. And still fun catching Kokes (especially since LP & AndR have been so slow). Sizes we caught ranged from 6" to 'monsters' at almost 11". We caught probably 80-90 Kokes (well over a hundred hookups) and 2 12" Cutthroats. Released 1 Cutthroat and pretty much all the Kokes under 7" (unless they were hooked too badly). Grilled several on a couple different nights while there (Awesome!) and brought home quite a few as they still smoke up very nicely. Just gotta put a few more in the smoker.

Got very smoky there after the first couple of days. Actually got to see a couple of fire-fighting planes scoop up water (many times over 2 days!) to help with one of the local fires.

All in all, a great camping trip and an OK fishing trip!

Sounds like a great trip. We have done pretty well at LP this year. Not great quantity but some real fat 18” fish. AR was a bust. One trip, 2 nice fat fish. The second only 2 small fish. We will be at CDA the first week in August but primarily after Chinook. I’m sure we will spend some time after Kokes. We surprisingly caught a handful of real nice Kokes at CJ Strike. We were after Rainbows but caught more Kokes than bows. Today we fished there for Sturgeon but it was so windy, hot, and Smokey that the trip was a bust. Finished the day doing a quick troll by the dam. Caught a nice Koke on a Kastmaster and a beautiful perch and small mouth on a Shad Rap. We are going to spend some time at Cascade soon. Never fished there but hopefully won’t be as freakin hot up there.

We live in Star so we are almost neighbors. Maybe we will bump into you some day.
