    Default Wallowa Lake Fishing Report

Heading to Wallowa Lake Oregon from Boise for an annual Memorial day weekend trip. Last year I got skunked, don't want that to happen again. Any suggestions or tips? I'll be running downriggers.

I have not seen or heard anything about Wallowa yet this year, which is probably not a good sign.

We have rented a cabin with a dock right on the lake for the 3rd weekend this month. I will let you how we do. Any body got any tips on fishing Wallowa? One end any better than another? Standard kokenee fare?

Last summer we spent 5 days fishing hard. Kokanee are very very small. Spend your time targeting the trout in the inlet and trolling the edges. There are decent sized holdovers. Small plugs produced the largest trout.

Nice lake, but small fish. We caught only 8" to 12" trout and some kokes. All the 12" trout you want though! A few more years and maybe it well be back.

Default Wallowa trip June 15, 2016

Went to Wallowa Lake yesterday (June 15, 2016). We did fairly well for Kokanee. We brought home 19 between 4 fishermen but we lost at least that many as well. The biggest one we caught was a whopping 10"!! Everything else was 7-8". We caught a few jigging near the mouth of the river. The majority of our catching occurred along the west side of the lake from the creek up to the shed built on stilts. For about an hour we were hooking up every few minutes.

We used maggots for half the day and caught a few that way. We did best on tuna soaked corn. As far as gear, the color they seemed to prefer was anything similar to pink or red. Green did work for a few but pink tints worked best. We only had to use 1 ounce banana weights and trolled from 1.1 - 1.3mph. The fish were 25-50 ft deep.

    Fished Wallowa on 6/3.
Caught fish from top water down to 50 feet. Caught a couple on dodgers and pink hoochies, but most on pop gear with wedding rings. Tried tuna soaked corn, maggots, and plain shoepeg. Most hit the plain shoepeg.
Most fish at 50 feet. However, we put in the water a bit later, so probably missed the early bite. No fish over 14 and most 7 to 8 inches.

Heading back to Wallowa for a few days.
Would like to drop some gear lower to target Macks while fishing for kokanee.
Any info for Macks or Kokanee fishing right now would be great.
