flaming gorge giant kokes on the fourth

I fished the gorge over the forth, water temp was a sizzling 74 deg f at 5am and got as high as 82 by the evening. I found the bite was very early in the morning and was almost non existent by 9 a.m. fished just above anvil and about a mile below the farm house. I fished out in the middle away from all the other boats , got my lines out and set up for kokes at 45 feet deep. I used an rmt 5.5" green dodger with pearl rmt squid, I only fished for an hr or so before the fun was over minutes to limit out on kokes with the largest being 4.5 lb 23" , second right a 4.0 and the other two 3.5 and 3.0, filled out the second limit with smaller fish . the gorge is fishing great but unfortunately the bite is far to short due to the conditions. but the sizes of the fish really make up for the short bite period.

Great Job Mtncat1, I was up there a little over a week ago and it sounds like in the same area doing the same thing. Green was also the thing for us, we did very well producing very large Kokes for some great limits. I was surprised when I got back and read how slow it was for most and figured we just got very lucky as we would usually hit several rods up to three when we would hit our mark. I am hoping to get back quickly, now if I could just figure out how to get someone to do my job but still give me the check

I was up there for the ducks unlimited tournament last week and we couldn't get them dialed in so I mainly fished for lakers . and I wasn't fishing early enough for the kokes I guess .

Sounds like you were close to the bottleneck. Nice fish.

I'm going to FG Monday, to start fishing at 5am will need to get out of bed at 1am.
will try the green dodger
I just bot some 3 1/2" silver flutter spoons need to put some tape on them and eyes. and see if I can catch a laker on the bottom
so fish for kokes from 5 to 9am then lakers
Mon tue and Wed.
will be at Strawberry this Sat. ( I hate fishing on week ends)

We had similar type action in the same area. We did have a hard time keeping them on the hook! It would be embarrassing to say how many came unbuttoned on us not even to mention the 8 we broke off over the 4 days... We ended up with some really great kokes (up to 22") and plenty of fish.

I had one break me off also there are some nice fish up there right now , plus it looks like the weather is improving . was the bite early for you also?

We saw two bite times occurring. The first was 20 minutes before sunrise until the sun hit the water then things slowed way down. We did see a decent second bite between 9:00- 10:30. Not nearly a strong as the early morning, but still productive. We've seen this pattern quite a few times at this time of year. I suggest everyone (besides us) wait for the 9:00am bite... ;-)
