Default Gorge Report Aug 9,10, 2012

Caught a lot of really nice Kokes. I was surprised by how red many of the fish were for this time of year. Fished out of Buckboard with about 30 other boats. All the trollers were friendly and tried to stay out of each others way. The bigger fish we caught were at 65-70 feet down. The smaller kokes were higher in the water. The best speed was 1.7 mph. Red glow squids and RMT dodgers worked well. I caught one fish that had another lure broken off in it's mouth. It had two hooks with a yellow colored rubber "egg" on each hook. The action was best in the morning but the fish were still active until about 2 PM when we quit because of the heat. There was no "W" which made for a pleasant trip. It was nice to see a mussel inspection station active near the boat ramp.

Got to love the reds, seems like they fight twice as hard.

I'll second that. You know right away when it's a Red.

I filleted them all. The flesh on the Reds was as firm as on the silvers. Put a few on the grill and couldn't tell any taste difference. The Reds appeared to be in three different shades of red ranging from just pink to blood red. All tasted good.

Every time I read a Gorge report makes my heart long to be there. Here in Colorado, a little too far away. Thanks for the pics and report.

Jealous! Will next year be as good on the Gorge? I sure hope so because I want to make the trip!

Nice!! My dad and I made it over for the 11th and 12th but we stayed at the pipeline and down. Had the best luck on Saturday at rawlins and a little North. Sunday was a struggle for some reason. We managed to finally get into them later in the afternoon down the canyon. Saturday produced some decent size but Sunday everything seemed extra small. Nice report! I'm jealous, I still haven't hooked into a red one...some nice pinks but nothing you would call red.
