Thread: Tinsel

    Default Tinsel

Anyone know of a good place to buy tinsel (mylar)? I want to tie up a bunch of trolling flies and wish that it was the day after Easter or X-Mas so I could stock up. They give the stuff away then, so I think there must be a great place to pick some up cheap. Websearch has been time consuming so far and way overpriced. Boy do they have some great colors out there!

Don't be afraid to think outside the box and try places like Michael's or Hobby Lobby.... (art stores).

Sportsman's Warehouse carries something similiar in their fly tying isle. The product is called Flashabou, tinsel flash. The tinsel is 10" long and come in a variety of colors. I have 2 colors pink & purple pearl. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I will do more local checking around. I have a whole room full fly tying stuff and it does include a lot of flashabou (some tinsel, but mostly the holographic fluoro-fibers), but it is SO much more expensive than Easter basket grass or X-Mas icicles. Honestly, I was going to stock up last winter/spring, but have not been tying as much as I used to and now I regret missing my opportunity. You get a lot of mylar in a bag of Easter grass and there are some great colors. I did find this, which is more like I'm looking for:

    http://www.bronners.com/product/holo...=1&from=Search
which has multiple colors, 500 20" strands for $1.99, but it's almost $10 after shipping.

Michael's stop tomorrow. Anyone have a recommendation on which beads to pick up when I'm there?

I have the small fancy beads from Michaels. I labeled my box as bling. Thats what these beads bring to mind. After all, I see alot of women buy them. They must be good. I've caught fish on some of my bling setups.

Has anyone tried mylar tube flies (like a hoochie) for kokes? Lots of nice colors available and more fun to make your own :)

I get most all of my tying materials from Cabelas. But you have to order from there website because there stores to not have there whole selection. Orvis and Bass pro offer good selections too.
