    Default Georgetown Lake

Hey guys. I'm happy to see some Montana interest in Kokanee fishing. I'm going to Georgetown lake in 2 weeks. was told it's only 16 feet deep is this true for a majority of the lake? I've only fished for kokes in much deeper water.

Whose been stackin' em up lately???

It's true that G-Town is shallow (16' on average according to MFISH). It is an impounded meadow that really must have been something before it was flooded. It does get over 30' in a few places.
Be prepared to fight the weeds if you are trolling and good luck!

Thank you for the link MMM! Yes, that was probably amazing to see that meadow before being flooded. I can only imagine the number of elk that used to winter there. I will be trolling over there weekend after this. I hope the weeds aren't too bad i'm really looking forward to fishing for Kokanee again!!!

    Default Georgetown

Looking at the map, I'm surprised as to how shallow the lake is. Are the kokes there self sustaining? It doesn't look like GTL has been stocked with kokes for years according to the stocking reports. Look forward to your report.

I'm shocked to find the koke's in G-Town are self-sustaining, but it may be the case: http://www.archive.org/stream/AE7C5D...F49D4_djvu.txt

It has been a fantastic lake for them, especially in the winter, but has been off the past few years. Theories range from weather to a food-web change. I understand the kokanee are still present in good numbers even if they are tight-lipped. I would love to figure it out in the summer.

FYI - that's one OLD study!

I've been doing a little more checking on this and GT has not been stocked with kokes for a long time and there is no limit (or possession limit) on them.

    Default Habitat

Have never been there but was curious if there is any spawning habitat?

I catch them trying to run into springs that seep out of the bank. Very little moving water, but must work if they keep returning. There are also some nice tributaries that other fish use, but I do not know if they get runs or not.
