Default 2023 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Hoping that the fish are big and plentiful this year. Best of luck to all that make the trip.

Fished a few hours last week. Caught six between 7 and 9 inches. They were about 30' and down by the dam.

Does anyone have any fishing reports from Dworshak about any kokanee fishing?

    Default after the storm

Wife and I launched at Bruces monday 5/22 at 6am. I figured turnover just happened and anywhere was as good as anywhere else. - surface temps were an unbelievable 70ƒ - So dropped lines in and started off right from the ramp. Headed across through Merrys Bay. Marked small clusters occasionally (very occasionally) at anywhere from 15 feet to 45 feet. Kind of hit the marking jackpot around the anchor floats directly across opposite the Bruces ramps. Caught a half dozen or so, all under 8". Pretty slim pickings and mostly not big enough to do anything with.

Ran up to Indian Crk, see if things were any different. Nada. Nothing. Zero marks. Zero hits. Worked our way back and tried the face of the dam, nothing to note. Caught this and that on the downriggers, all small enough that the wouldn't trip the release.

Gave up and went for a walk. Wish I had a better report.

Limits on Monday of small 8-9" kokanee. Reservoir full of water and kokes throughout system. Too many kokes = too little plankton = not enough feed = tiny adult kokes. Still a beautiful day on the water and they're delicious small, too.

Been an interesting couple weeks of fishing. 2 weeks ago caught about 30 fish at Dicks. many of the fish we caught were already changing - noses getting blunt and a blush to them.

Last week hHit Cranberry and the bridge, caught 37 before the wife aimed me home. We saw not a one fish with signs of change.

Today, limited out with 50. Tried the bridge on the way up lake, it was slow and the ones we caught were small. Ran up to Reeds and Magnus bay and did better. Saw small fish in huge schools, caught a few lil ones. Mostly the finder would pick pockets of bigger ones and we ended doing well on them with a fairly long fishing day. Did catch a big bass on a kokanee rig that was a chore to land. Not one fish with any signs of change.

Water temps near the dam were 84ƒ. Up at Reeds was 76. They are really letting the water out. 5 or 6 inches in the 7 hours were on the lake.

35' to 45'. I tried deeper as was marking fish at time down to 75', but was not catching many below 45'.
