Thx for the good and not so good news:) Do you think the fertilizing may help substantially with the size of the super abundant Kokanee this year! Any idea as to the length of the fry last summer?...

My experience and understanding is the fish are down around the dam til dam...
That does it then, thank you!
Just my two bits worth: According to today's Dworshak water temps the kokes will be living around 26' deep as it's about 54F at that depth (near the dam). They will leave that depth temporarily to...
To check if troll is too fast see if inside rods, on moderate or gradual turns, produce strikes. Experiment and you'll get it dialed in!
What size are they this spring?....with a genuine carpenters...
This might save a few shekels http://www.nwd-wc.usace.army.mil/ftppub/water_quality/tempstrings/DWR_S1_2019_07.html but I don't know how accurate it would hold farther up
Thx for the good info. I hear that Kokes like to live in water temps around 54F, then warmer temps to feed on plankton, then back to the lower 50's. If that's the case they ought to be around 50-60'...
Bout that time for the pre spawn migration up the reservoir. Anyone care to divulge their luck the last couple days or how far up you gotta go to get into good numbers now?
Right on Ricks. thumbsup
Just an fyi that Dworshak has been stocked w/ Kokes during years after large losses over the dam. At least some and perhaps all have come from Deadwood Res. Been there talking to the biologists when...
Had a great few days on Dworshak. Some days limits came fast, other days slower. Mostly around 12" with a few 13". S turns and speed changes especially when they were off the bite. Yesterday marked...
Got to Elk Creek around 7:30 after launching at Bruces. Granddaughter limit at noon, lunch, then finished the other two limits in about 30 minutes.
Gorgeous day on the water. We fished 15-20' deep...
Haven't been fishing for 3 weeks, but it would probably be worth trying further up. What's to lose? How were others doing? Hoping to go next week.
I'd have an adequate firearm and mosquito repellent. There's a better chance of sinking your truck at the boat launch than encountering an aggressive predator, but the firearm adds confidence (and...
The mini camps can be great when the pool is full. Friends had bear trouble once and abandoned camp due to aggressive behavior of the bear. They were at a mini camp near the mouth of Elk Creek. They...
Sounds like the kokes are broadly scattered which is cool. Caught some fish everywhere we hunted but dialed in at No Tellem' shoreline and 3 of us put near limits on ice. Only saw one other boat....
Well, it appears either everybody's busy fishing, nobody's fishing, or everyone is tight lipped lol! I hope to fish Tuesday and will post results.
I forgot to THANK YOU! for the heads up about your success. The wife & I had a great day on the water after reading your post!
About 7 fish an hour around and above Dent Bridge. Fishing traditional, 4oz 30'; 2oz 60'. Smaller than last year at an average of 10". Liked a little faster troll. Watch for debris; pulled a bunch of...
Welcome Freeheeler! The reservoir has not been filling. Outflows have been 9.8 kcfs til today when it dropped to 4.4. If this remains the reservoir will start filling and fishing should improve....
In searching previous years posts some say the Springtime higher dam flows will move the fish 20+ miles upstream. Have you noticed sometimes the bite is best trolling upstream closer to shore? There...
Thanks and right on! We've fished Dworshak since 81 and used to get frustrated when the catch in all the hot spots suddenly died. In snooping the previous years posts, and other research we finally...
Seems like most spawn in the main free flowing North fork and tributaries like Skull Creek.
We used to camp and fish at Grandad every year when we lived closer. The road through Headquarters was...
We were further up and fishing the same depth as you. The fish generally are moving up reservoir and deeper in the water column as July progresses. You probably noted boat traffic headed up in the...
That's great, Elkchaser, that fish are still being caught at Bruces! Unusual for mid July but it probably means there's a lot of fish and they're broadly scattered.
Last Wednesday my wife & I...
