Never fished the lake. It sounds like the main fishery is for lake trout. The special regulations for Payette Lake say only 1 lake trout per day minimum size 30". Decided not to take my boat. I talked with a Sheriff Deputy who does water safety patrol and she said that the fishing had been good. Talked to 2 guys at the Mile High Marina ramp that had just come in from a morning of fishing for kokes and lakers. They had been skunked. Said they marked fish but couldn't get any bites. From what little I learned that main fishing area is up in the deep water on the northend of the lake around the island. Looks more like a peninsula on the map.

We did take our granddaugter to Brown's Pond(near airport). Private property that the landowners allow F & G to stock the pond and the public has access to it. The fish ran 9-12" that she caught. Fished a bobber with a bit of worm and red power bait. Good luck.
