Looking to build a 12v dc controlled throttle control for a 2 stroke kicker. Seen a few options just think I could build one. Not quite sure where to begin. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Hoolee99 - The folks in the RC world have what you need. The servos used in the commercial throttle controls are from the RC (radio controlled) world. A really good radio control hobby shop can help. I know of one here in Spokane that can do this. PM me if you need further info.

For my money I'd still go with a unit manufactured for this purpose. iTroll, Troll Master, and Control King all make units to do this. The advantage among many is the ability to touch a button and return to idle when a fish is on and then resume the same troll speed once the fish is in the boat.

That makes sense, I just hate paying for things I can build

I think they would work with a two stroke as well, it just may need a small mod for locating it. I have a Troll Master 2 for my 4 stroke Yami, they are very simple to install. They probably show 4 strokes as those are more popular now. I agree you could build it yourself, but how much would you save and you probably wouldn't have as nice of a control.

It really depends on the configuration of the carb and factory throttle control. If you look at the iTroll video you can see how the throttle control is hooked up. This is where your building stuff comes in as they are sold to fit four strokes. Joel at iTroll may be able to answer the application question for your motor.

Hope that helps - Alan

So far have found a servo motor $16. A servo tester which will work as the controller $20 and I need to get a 12volt to 6 volt reducing transformer then make a mount. I will take pics and see what I come up with
