after changing my hubs I cleaned the wheels and noticed they still looked dull and dirty and new an acid would work but didn't want it on the cement so I thought CLR might work so I tried it and was really pleased with the results I have a galvanized tricker trailer and did one side of the toung and again what a difference once I get it rolling and outside I will do the whole thing. here's the wheels. dfly

lookin good

also, do you check your trailer bearings each year? and if you do are you punching out that inner seal every year to inspect the innner bearing and race or do you just inspect outter seal and race and just get as much old grease off the outer and inner parts of the hub as you can?

i was working on my utility trailer bearings the other night and the outer bearing and race looked great so i decided that the inner parts are prolly ok too, and if i remember right most of the weight and wear will be on the outer race and bearing correct?

I pull the drum/hub assembly every year clean, inspect and repack the bearings. replace the seal, disassemble and clean the bearing buddy and replace the o-ring this is probably excessive but I also don't have any problems or worries traveling long distances with my trailer. as far as what end gets water in it I have found the seal end can be a bigger problem than the hub side and the weight is evenly distributed to both bearings it' just harder on the smaller one. this winter I switched over to oil bath you can see in in 'what are you doing to your boat' thread. dfly
