Thanks for the report! This is my first communication although I have been reading your reports for about a year.
My question is what areas would you suggest trying this week end.

they arent concentrated yet so anywhere is possible...had a bit of luck at the south fork entrance and in the bay before the dam...good luck!

This time of the year the Kokes has the erge to migrate down stream for some reason, not clear on that. Best fishing would be down around the Damns. I was told this, buy a fish and game Biologist.

Went up Friday...boated 3 nice Kokes and a pig trout...killed and fed to the birds 3 Squaws...had several doubles but because I was reaquanting my 12 year old to Koke fishing we lost about 6 to the fight...all were hitting at 16 feet deep on DR's...

Fished Arrowrock today landed 5 kokes the bigger ones are 17" also landed a bunch of northern pike minnows. Fished 20-35 ft deep. Hit apex's mostly some on pink hoochies.

Friday Landed a 17'' koke near the Dam, and several trout on the same gear. This is the first week I have seen the pike minnows become active. Killed about 10 of them. Yellow troller with green wedding ring & corn. zero hits all day on a shasta sling blade and pink wiggle hoochie near surface. Then sat morning the trout slammed the same pink hoochie on the surface. One things for sure the rig that works one day, is worthless the next.

Fished on Thursday....yes it was raining...aside from being cold and wet...we slammed out 12 in three hours...all nice ones too...alot of debris in the water...surface temps hovering around 52...lake is at full pool...must have stocked recently cuz we also caught several dinks...one going less than 6 inches...lol...most were caught on dr's at 18 feet...some on top before the dr went down...always funny when that happens. Fished from 10:30 to 1:30....good luck

Fished Arrowrock saturday with my son and his two friends. Got on the water about 9 and quit about 2:30. We had to work hard for them but we ended up with 15 kokes. The boys farmed a few also. It was a good day of fishing.

Finally got some kokanee fishing in today after fishing for chinook the last 3 weeks. Made the decision to go to Arrowrock with my good fishing buddy. I haven't fished it since I went in March. I got my boat in the water at 6:15 a.m. and was done fishing at 1:00. I shot straight across from the launch. Marked fish between 25-30 feet. I stacked both downriggers 10 feet apart on both sides. 25' feet and 15' on left side and 28' and 18' on the other. Ran my usual sling blades and homemade hoochie spinners. Pink was the winning color today. We boated a kok within 10 minutes a 17'' keeper. Fishing was a little slow, averaging a fish every 30 minutes. Had multiple double ups and ended the day with a triple up and landed 2 out of the 3. Had 12 fish in the cooler 10 of them at 16-17'' and 2 were just over 18''. Tight lines and good luck everyone!

I thought about fishing there but all the fun boats and jet ski's parked on the beach scared me off.

Went up the reservoir a little more and had similiar results.

When the wind kicked up we were invaded by the folks that were running around by the boat ramp all morning looking to get out of the chop. Good Job. Nice Fish.

Thanks Allyn! It was really nice to see just fellow kokanee anglers on the water today. I'll be headed there again next Wednesday and hopefully have the same resultsthumbsup

I am posting my first post and I'm happy to have something to report.
My wife and I went up to Arrowrock today about 4:00p.m. and fished till 8:00 p.m.
We ended up with 7 nice fatties. The largest one was 17 1/2".
Used Kokanee Killers and Wiggle Hoochies at 35ft deep.
It was beautiful on the water this evening.
I am so thankful that my wife is my best fishing buddy.
Thanks for this forum!

Just got back from driving up that wonderful dirt road. Started fishing about 0630 and finished a three person limit at about 1400. Couple doubles but for the most part just steady scattered hits. Most fish caught at about 25' down. Pink slings with pink hoocies for the most part but also caught some on silver and orange hoochies.

Surface temp was 67 in the morning and up to 70 when I left.

Caught 2 18" inchers and 7 that were 17-16", rest were 13-16". The squawfish horde was out in force on the upper end in both the South and Middle fork arms. Was catching 4 squaws per koke for most the morning. God awful nasty things. The eagles even got sick of them before long. Have fun.

Fished also on Saturday from 9am to about 1pm. We ended up with 9 but had to really work for them. We also had some very short bites. Our biggest koke did not even register a hit. I was just checking the rod for a tangle and he was on there. Only two of the fish were under 15 inches. We caught fish from 40ft to the surface. And we only caught two squaw fish and no rainbows. I have only boated one rainbow out of 6 trips this year. I caught quite a few last year. Makes me wonder if they got caught in the gill nets with the squaws this fall

Went to arrowrock on the 4th, got there a little late, around 930 caught 2 pretty quick then a couple of squaws. Didn't get to stay late had to leave at 1 but it sure was fun. Hot pink hoochie seems to be the choice right now caught one at 15 and the other at 25. Monday I'm heading to Pine/Featherville for a little camping, any word on how the Kokanee are hiting up there at Anderson?

Fished on Independence Day solo and caught a limit. Dropped the first line down around 0630. Action was crazy fast until the light hit the water. By 0730 I had three in the boat and had lost three. Mostly lost them because I was to busy trying to get another line in the water and had a first rate cluster going on. Should have just ran with it and focused on fishing one rod well.

Once the light hit the water things slowed way down. Couldn't buy a bite after 0930. Finally changed a few things up and finished out at 1130. The key switch after the light was up high was a UV pink spatter back hoochie.

Fished today (Sat.) with my son. Didn't have a real hot bite early like Wed. but once the light hit the water it picked up and was steady. Had 8 by 0930. Then it slowed down a bunch. Picked up two more by 1100. Then nothing for a while finally finished out at 1330. Best lure/dodger combo was silver dodger with orange hoocie. Outfished the pink 2:1.

Still catching them at 25'. Went down to 35' for awhile with no luck (this was in the dead spell where we couldn't buy a bite).

Both Wed. and today, caught some that had the first signs of pink showing on the caudal fin and base of the tail. Also caught a couple males that had the hook starting to grow a little. Still plenty of time for fishing, but they are starting to head towards maturing.

Between the two trips (three limits), 1/2 were the 17-18" fish, 1/4 in the 15-16" range and 1/4 in the 12-15" range. Didn't go above the junction of the South Fork and Middle Fork arms. The squawfish weren't to bad down lower in the reservoir. Only caught 6 in the two trips combined.

They are dropping the water pretty fast now. Probably about 2' a day. Some of the humps near the south fork are getting up there. Was cruising along fishing at 25' and not really paying to much attention to the depth finder when I glance at it and we are in 35' and shrinking. In another week I would probaby have been making a donation to the collection and marking my GPS to come back in the fall. Anways, hope this helps someone. Have fun.

Went out on the morning of the 30th. I thought I was going the extrat mile by getting up at the crack of dawn, after a "big evening" Friday night. I should have left Boise about an hour before daylight. I had some rookies wiht me from out of town, put on about 8am. Ate dust all the way to the ramp and had to park about 200 yards down the road... at 8 am...
It looked like salmon season at arrowrock res.
They seemed to be moving a little higher in the water.
Fishing was pretty slow that weekend for me. Ended up getting 4 in the boat, lost about a dozen more. 4 NPMinows. Hooked all the kokes equally on pop gear and widding rings and dogers with hoochies. Big delicious fish!

Took a buddy to fish Arrowrock on Thursday. Picked up ten nice kokes most being 17-17.5" in length. Air quality was amazingly good considering that you couldn't see across lucky peak, because of the smoke early in the morning. Got to the lake around 7 am and fished until 12:30. Water temp went from 71 degrees in the morning to 77 degrees mid-day. Fish are still in pretty good condition, but some were starting to show just a hint of color around their fins and scales are become a little tougher to take off of some. Fillets are still looking good though. Fish all fought like crazy. You could tell instantly if you had a koke on or one of those pesky squawfish.

My daughter and I went out with Duckpoppper on 7/18 and had a great time. The fishing was a bit slow but my 8 y/o daughter caught her first Kokanee and ended up with her first limit. We started around 0730 and ended around 1430. The last 3 we caught were absolute pigs, > 18"

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r318/H82Miss/020-1.jpg

We ended the day with 9 kokes, (6 for my daughter, 3 for Duckpopper, I was the net man and taking pics), 1 small rainbow, and 2 pikeminnows. It was hot but the occasional breeze made it tolerable. A fun day for sure and now my daughter is hooked on Kokanee fishing too!

I'm thinking about taking my granddaughter to AR on Monday. I have a small boat and motor, and once I commit to a part of a big body of water, there's not a lot of time to explore another part if I strike out on the first choice. I only get to take her once or twice a year, so I'd like for it to be a good trip. Thanks for any info you feel comfortable about passing along.

Went to AR yesterday, put in around 6am fished until 130, threw about everything out there, and dephts of 20 to 50 feet. 2 small ones about 12 inches one big one got away and about 12 squaws. Has it been this slow for everybody? The fish I did pick up were on orange hoochi and organge dodger, the squaws hit everything

The biggest koke was 14 inches. We boated 10 fish. BOATED 20 squawfish The fish were the` same size that I have been catching in Anderson Ranch. Seen them fighting fire above Spring Shores on Ridge. And Helicopters getting water out of Lucky Peak. may go two Anderson again this week or Arrowrock.

Fished Sat. for 5 hrs in the morning. Fished out from the boat dock at first and caught a couple of next years fish.

Moved up to the South Fork arm and caught a couple of this years fish. They are showing more signs of turning. Didn't go up the South Fork arm real far as it was getting hot and the kids wanted to swim and then the wife had her share of fun and wanted to get out of the heat.

I think that the fish have moved and are staging to spawn. Big dropoff on the numbers of fish marked in the areas they have been all summer and also a big dropoff in the number of folks chasing them up there. That tells me something as it has been getting fished hard all summer and bam the first weekend I go and don't do well, the number of folks fishing is also about 1/4 what it was.

I wanted to run up to the mouth of the river and see what was going on up there but wasn't able to. Left before the fire started so didn't get caught up in that mess. Might hit Anderson this week, but have been waiting to hear of any kind of consistency up there. Seems like it has been off and sporadic up there all season. Maybe I will just have to accept that I am gonna have to catch up on all the work I have put off chasing Kokes all summer.
