I bought a nice little downrigger last year and changed out the cable.
I kept the old cable thinking it might be useful to make some homemade lake trolls.
Has anyone else done this?
Thoughts?

I've used downrigger wire to make longer release clip cables (like them around 18".)

The cable works great for a lot of things! Just get the Berkley sleeves for connectors!

I like the plastic coated wire leader material in various lb. tests for trolling strings, smaller diameter works better with the clevis's on the blades, good crimping tool and quality sleeves a must! Bob R

Thanks guys,
They look like they would be pretty simple to make with a good crimp and a bead separating the blades.

I wonder if it would work to make a release with a few blades on it. Would that work?

Worth a try but the blades might flutter more than spin once you put a load on the rod. I've made a few trolls around 6-8" long useing small blades that attaches between the dodger and mainline (check out FWG dodgers.)
