Just got back from 4 days at Wallowa. Here is my review.
Day 1 - We arrived at Wallowa lake at 3 pm. Had our poles in the water at 3:30. It was cloudy, cool, good breeze, and 47 degrees. The water temp was 42.5 degrees. Within an hour I landed our first fish, a 17+ inch Kokanee. I proceeded to catch four 15+ inch and a 13 inch Kokanee. We also caught five 12-13 inch rainbows. We were out there about 3 hours. After catching the the first six big fish we had decided to throw back any Kokanee under 14 inches and all rainbows, for the whole trip.
Day 2 - It was sunny and 55 degrees. The water temp was a little bit warmer. We proceeded to catch a 22 inch, a 15+ inch, three 14 inch, and two 13 inch Kokanees. Also caught 12 rainbows.
Day 3 - It was beautiful!!! Sunny and 65 degrees. We caught a 19 inch,16 inch, two 15+ inch, three 14 inch and a 12 inch Kokanee. Also 2 rainbows.
Day 4 - It was 50 degrees and raining most of the day. We started our day with a 21 inch, an 18 inch, two 16+ inch, three 14 inch, two 13 inch and four 12 inch Kokanees. Also caught a 16 inch rainbow and two 12 inch rainbows.
We did not use our downriggers. We used a red wedding ring tipped with white corn, 1 oz lead, medium cowbells, 75-80 feet behind the boat. Husband used 1/2 oz lead with large cowbells. We fished on the South end of the lake most of the time. During the day we parked the boat in the inlet on shore West of the boat ramp on the South end of the lake. It was an awesome trip!!

Heading up to Paulina in about 2 1/2 weeks. Afraid I'm going to be really disappointed catching 12 -13 inch kokanees after our Wallowa experience. Well we'll have a good time anyway!!!!

I will be going to Wallowa on the 30th. I have a new scent for my corn that I tried at GP that worked very well a week ago. I am anxious to try it at Wallowa. Also thanks Kokaneegal for the fishing tips. signfishin

You can also stop in at the Sports Coral and pick up the latest bait and tips. This what I did and they were very helpful.

Great report. BIG fish. How far ahead do you have to apply to get a cabin or RV parking spot or whatever is available? I have been to Wallowa Lake only a couple of times but what a beautiful spot. Is the fishing good later in the summer?

Rodgerdodger - There are many cabins for rent there. Try Wallowa Lake Resort on line. Wallowa state park, for camping, has over 100 spaces.

OK thanks for the information. I live in the Tacoma area so its a big drive for me, especially with $4/gallon gas. I will put it on my todo list. Just the scenery in that area is a special treat.

Im planning a return trip to wallowa this year, maybe in early july when it warms up a little. last year we really spanked um in late may, but it was sooooo cold. Any one fished it in early july?
