Fished the PK Derby with Jenna and had a great time and talked with number of Kokanee fishing friends. The fishing was not red hot but came in waves for us that kept us plenty busy. The lake is so full this year that it is spilling over at the spillway and you can hear the water roaring over it.

I boated a couple of trout early that took a liking to the UV Clear Apex and the second one was a great fighter and was 3.25 pounds. With those in the bag I decided it made sense for me to be the trout guy and Jenna the Kokanee girl. We finally found some Kokanee after that and Jenna boated a couple of nice one at the 14 inch class. The rest of the fish were in the 13 inch range and feisty. It was tough having our fish constantly get off through an aerial, LDR and some SDR's but that's what makes early season Kokanee fishing a challenge.

We fished from the buoys from north to south end and the dam to the river mouth and the fish were all 3 to 25 feet for us. They took a variety of lures but mainly RMT Assassin spinners, Hoochies (mainly pink), UL spinners - copper pop. A smorgasbard of corn flavors were used as well as dodgers.

So in the end Jenna squeezed into 5th place with 31.4 ounces, almost a pound each in a large field of 30+ juniors which was great to see for the future. I went the trout route and weighed them in and they surprisingly took 3rd. The winner of the trout caught a 9lb brown that I'm sure has eaten a few Kokanee over its years. All in all a good day and there should be no hesitation in fishing Pardee this year with it's much larger fish, on average 2 inches bigger and I'm positive we will see some 16 inchers by end of the season if not by August.

On with the photos...

That one trout is a little piggy. Good job on the 3rd and 5th place finishes.

Tks... no complaints from the HiTechKoke clan.

I want to see your report from Crescent Brian... congrats on your 1st place finish up there as it looks like it was a close one. What was the average size and weight of the fish at Crescent?

Average size was 13 inches and average weight was about 300 g or 0.66 lbs. Even with the water being in the low 40's, the fish were plump and on the feed.
