Mine is a 1999 18ft Alumacraft. Merc 115 2s o/b with a Merc 4s 6hp trolling motor set up on a remote troll bracket. Bottom line 5100 finder, two Cannon mag-5's downriggers both on swivel bases.Lots of room for 2-3 people, good rod storage. Uiden VHF radio ,with a 8ft Shakespeare antenna. It has been a very strong boat ,and offers a dry ride in rough waters. Like someone said earlier best thing about mine ,is that it's paid for. I need to get some new pictures with the new downrigger's as they look awesome on the boat.

I dont have a photo of my Boat, But will get one to add soon. I have a 1996 Tracker Deep V 16'. It has a 60 horse two stroke Mariner with a trolling plate, Bow mount electric, Two electric Scottys. I will be puttting swivel bases with 6" risers on them this weekend, Lorance electronics both Fish finder and Radio, nothing fancy but will pack three fat guys around the lake pretty good.

It's big, it's ugly and worst of all it's a gas hog. The great thing is that it is built solid and and I can sleep four people on it anywhere. No need to set-up a tent, just belly up to shore and camp is set.

We had five people in the boat, some sustained some very serious injuries, Game and Fish said if we had any other kind of boat we would have been cut into and probably had fatalities. The new boat will be a excact replica with only few modifications. Update, we picked up the new boat and have it home doing some fine tuning and will be headed too the Gorge in May for its first trip.

Just rolled the pond jumper over, and now its time for a few minor changes, almost got the front anchor / tow bar complete tooexcited Front seat mounted, that will be in the way for the slow day naps, and its going to effect the dog run. those are some mighty fine looking outfits. I would be proud to own any of them. As for me I have an alumaweld stryker 17.5, 90 hp Honda jet, 8 honda kicker, down riggers. But my favorite is my custom built bracket to hold my Coleman 2 burner nonsliding stove. Cast iron fry pans and pots will not shift.
Love to cook while fishing. Early morning includes sausage eggs and hashbrowns. Lunch is usually shrimp and sauted veggies over a bed of rice.

There are some amazing boats posted. Mine will not win any beauty contests or any races, but she's built to cruise and fish which she does quite nicely. The cabin makes for a great napping spot when the fishing's slow.

VHF radio
2 Cannon Mag 10 electric downriggers
Sleeps 2 up front, up to 2 on the fold down lounge seats (which makes the time from getting up at first light to being on the fish about 5 minutes if anchored in the right cove)

She's nothing special, but she's paid for, she puts out a mean wake (when the bite's off), she floats and can go wherever the fish are including the bay!

I originally envisioned pursuing anadromous salmon in the SF Bay and beyond, but until the season opens up the land-locked variety are the way to go.

Next upgrade will be a color sounder...

My boat is unique, I've never seen another one just like it on the water.

1999 Zodiac Futura Mark II, 14'
2000 Mercury 25HP 4-stroke "Bigfoot"
Happy Troller trolling plate
Lowrance Fish Finder w/ temp and speed
Cannon Sport-Troll downrigger
Custom swiveling seats

I love my Zodiac, it's the only 500 pound boat (motor and battery included) that I know of that is rated to carry 1400 pounds! It is incredibly stable. It drafts about 14" with the motor down, about 5" with the motor up. I can launch it anywhere and beach it on any shore. With my 25 HP Mercury with an 11-pitch prop it will do over 30 MPH and has tons of torque. Besides fishing and crabbing I do some diving out of my boat and it is nice to be able to enter/exit the boat wherever you want.

It might not be very dry or luxurious, but it is one of the safest boats built! Plus I definitely don't "blend in" on the lake...

All set up for Salmon Trolling
Our 88 17' Searay Seville...
Was a couple years old when I got er... Guy at work asked if it was the same boat that the guy I bought it from had run up on the rocks... I said it better not be! Long story short it was. Learned fiberglass repair and gelcoat application on-line. Put on a Keelguard, rinolined the trailer... Like new now! Took the seats out of the open bow put in a casting deck, seat pedastal mount, and storage under floor, added a 36LB thrust foot control trolling motor also used, for castingjigging. Took the seats out of the back put a casting deckseat and storage under floor back there too. Have a Happy Troller troll plate on the 100hp Mercury. Cannon easy troll down riggers. Eagle fishmark 320 sonar both fore and aft, both mounted Ramline, speed indicator wheel. Lowrance H2Oc Gps also mounted Ramline. Lowrance VHF radio. Put in a car kit for my Serious s50 satelite radio, channel 103 Serious blue collar comedy! Geterdone! Really like to see someone take care of an older boat, and ALWAYS upsets me when I see one, new or old NOT being cared for...

The most unique thing about my boat is that it's a diesel powered jetboat. It has lots of tackle and rod storage. It also has a Garmin 5212 GPS/fishfinder/chartplotter.

3RivrFishr, I know this may be a bit off topic but I have to ask about your fishing reels. I have looked in the past and have never found line counter reels that had the crank on the correct side, this is why I have never bought one. Looking at the pictures you've posted, it appears that you have found such rods. I am curious of the make and model of reel that they are so perhaps I too can find such a reel. I know these are considered a left handed reel but I think of them as being designed for a right handed fisherman. Are these reels somewhat affordable or are they a high-end reel that would likely bust my budget?

3RivrFishr
06-06-2010, 11:54 PM
Skookum, those are the reels I use for salmon and are within anyones budget which is why I own them! Our salmon season is short here in Idaho and I cant justify spending hundreds on reels for just a few weeks of fishing each year. I have yet to lose a river Chinook due to sticky drag or reel failure. I consider left hand retrieve to be more comfortable as well but I need both because of the way my rod holders are set up. The rear starboard rod has to have a right hand retrieve. Otherwise the crank could hang up on the railing when its pulled out of the rod holder.

Anyway, to answer your question they are Okuma Convector CV20DLX. Paid 65 bucks full retail and I'm sure you can get them for less with minimal effort. They are okay for that price considering they are about 1/3 the price of a line counter Tekota. Quality wise I'd say they are on par with the Cabelas Depthmaster. Stay away from the Okuma Magda though. It retails for even less than the Convector but is complete garbage. BTW, I do get reel envy when fishing with my buds who are sporting the 300.00 reels. I just try to get over it by landing more fish than they do! Oh, and the 2010 salmon season here closes in about 30 minutes...and all my gear is paid for! laugh hyst

I spent all last winter rebuilding this little 14' boat. New transom, floors, interior. I added a downrigger, fish finder and made my own bimini top. The engine is a 1966 Ward's Seaking, 50 hp Outboard. It runs excellant. I've got a 2hp trolling motor or an electric motor. I also rigged it for oars and I can troll with the oars if necessary. it's been a fun project and i learned a lot. Went out today and caught a couple of nice trout.

Rambler, very nice indeed. I love old boats, and even more so when someone brings them back to life. I regret not restoreing my grandpas old boat that was my first. it was a 1957 17 foot fleetliner. my grandpa bought it in Oregon. at the time it was built just to ocean specs. it had one of those all most straight up and down bows. It had a 70 hp direct drive merc. which meant it had to be turned off and restarted to be put in reverse (motor ran backwards). It had a full cabin with a huge spray windsheild on top of that. I still have the kicker motor which is a 10 hp johnson sea horse. the gas tank only is worth 100.00 bucks alone. It has a double hose, one for fuel, one for air to keep the tank pressurized. I will have to dig through some old pics and see if I can find one.

Brownbagger, Thanks for the compliments. It was intimidating at first but, with help from other forums, I was able to finish it. I'd like to see those pics of your Grandad's boat. It sounds really unique. If you're looking for an older "project" to restore, I've seen lot's of older boats for sale here in the Pacific Northwest. Some people are just giving them away. Good Fishing!

My boat is a 1977 Almar that started life as a Sheriff's patrol boat. It is now known as "The Terrible Moose" after a kids story written by Richard Scary that I used to read to my boys when they were little (Not very politically correct killing Moose I know but I like it that way!)

Man i was looking at those when i went with my fury. How do you like it? How does it with some weight in it? How does it handle a decent chop? How do you like the 115? i bet that thing flys! Where did you take those pics at seems like a great place to camp. Feel free to talk my ear about it. i love my lund but may be stepping up to a slightly larger boat in a few years(when we have kids). I am really digging the 20 ft version. I also really like that side console. Got any pics of the inside to show off? I also almost went with the camo but didn't want to spend the extra money.

I've had the boat now for almost 2 years & so far so good.

I had a Lund 1890 Pro V LE & a 17 Sea Class TDB that I used strictly for duck hunting. Being in construction, & given the crappy economy I decided to sell both boats and find 1 boat I could use year round for hunting & fishing. In my search the Lund Alaskan kept coming up as the "Go To" boat for both waterfowling & fishing.

In my search I found this 2007 Lund Alaskan on CL with only 30 hours on the motor and priced @ 1/2 the cost of new. The original owner was selling because of failing health issues. The only problem was it was back in Long Island, NY. Since work was slow for me at the time I decided to make the run back east & pick up the boat myself.

The Lund Alaskan 1800 SC weighs in @ 1100 pounds dry & is rated @ 90HP max. Given the altitudes of the lakes I fish the 75HP was jut not enough HP to give this boat any type of performance. After doing some research I discovered that the 75, 90, & 115HP Mercury 4 Strokes were all basically the same motor. By reflashing my motors ECU to the 115 specs and removing a restrictor ring in front of the air box I was able to make this boat come to life. All I can say is that it was well worth the money & the cheapest 45HP gain money can buy.

Before the reflash I had to run a 13P prop to get my rpm's up where they needed to be (5600+ range for the 75HP)) and top speed was 30mph on the gps. These figures were all done out @ Magic which is 4800' ele. Since the reflash I can now turn a 16P SS @ 6000rpm with a top speed of 36mph. When I drop down in elevation I'll go with a larger prop. I would think at Lucky Peak (3000') I'll turn a 17P prop & this August salmon fishing up in Sekiu,WA I'll go up to a 19P & should see some where in the low 40mph range.

As far as the ride goes, I think it rides better then my old 96 Lund Pro V. The Pro V & Alaskan are basically the same hull length but the Pro V was 8" wider & 400 pounds heavier. In 2006 Lund redisigned the hull of the Alaskan when they introduced the IPS hull. I believe this new IPS hull design is what makes this boat a pleasure to run in ruff choppy water. The boat rides high & dry when up on plane & unless your bucking an extreme cross wind I have yet to get wet from spray coming back into the boat.

I wish I could have found one in camo, really would have been nice to find the same camo pattern as the boat. I bought that one from a supplier on Ebay, I figured the light tan color was better then the red or blue. No big deal really, as that comes off the boat way before I start chasing waterfowl.

I usually have a minimum of 5 poles in my boat all rigged up with different presentations ready to go! Headed out to Chelan in search of Koke this Thursday!

If you get the chance, can you explain where/how/pics on the docking lights? I had them on my old boat and really miss them - not sure where/how I'd mount them on my current boat.

How does the boat run with the 150?, thats about what I make at altitude here in WY. My boat is under powered for the elevation, just curious how yours performs at sea level

Mike,

Mine runs good at both sea level and at the altitudes we have here in eastern Washington and northern Idaho. It came with a 19 pitch, 3 blade prop and I am able to pull water skiers behind it. However, I felt it was a little slow out of the hole and so I went with a 4 blade prop with the equivalent of one size smaller than the 19 pitch 3 blade. With the 19 pitch, 3 blade prop, it would do just under 45 mph on fresh water with two people onboard. With the new prop, it tops out at 38 MPH, but is much faster out of the whole.

I'd like to share what I’ve done to my boat. I purchased the Lund WC16 12 years ago and have been tinkering with it every since. The main driver through all modifications has been clean and efficient usage. That meant building storage compartments, cleaning up wiring, and clearing the decks. Here are some of my mods:

Me and the boat at Jameson Lake. It’s a Lund WC16 powered by a 15hp Suzuki 2 stroke.
https://tinboats.net/forum/download/file.php?id=103004&sid=58839c690a8667cda0a4a71244e139a0&mode=view

The first addition was to build a front deck. I did this for storage underneath and a flat deck to setting a cooler out of the way or laying in the sun. The hatch is fairly level with the deck surface and the whole thing is strong enough to walk on.
Also in this storage area, I mounted the battery and onboard charger. The only thing above deck is the 3 prong plug to charge the battery. The battery and charger are not in the pic but mounted in front of the bench seat.
https://tinboats.net/forum/download/file.php?id=103005&sid=58839c690a8667cda0a4a71244e139a0&mode=view

This is the underside of the deck. In order to make it strong but light, I used angled aluminum. There’s almost no flex in the deck and the storage space underneath is huge. The aluminum also helps support the hatch.
https://tinboats.net/forum/download/file.php?id=103007&t=1&sid=58839c690a8667cda0a4a71244e139a0

During a crabbing outing, I got really annoyed with the fuel tank sitting on the floor of the boat. It was taking up valuable floor space for 4 crab pots, a bucket, and our feet. So here was my solution. I removed just enough foam to allow the fuel tank to sit inside the middle bench seat. I used a piano hinge on the seat. This has really cleaned up the floor of the boat.
https://tinboats.net/forum/download/file.php?id=103008&t=1&sid=58839c690a8667cda0a4a71244e139a0

I used the port side rear seat for electronic items. To run the wires from the front of the boat, I used ¾” PVC pipe for conduit. The pipe fits under the seat for a no-show wire system. On top of the seat I mounted a Humminbird depth sounder and a RAM mount for my Garmin GPS. On the side of the seat I installed a 4 switch panel that runs the depth sounder and the bilge pump you can see mounted on the left. I also added a plug for my trolling motor so I didn't have to use alligator clips on a battery.
https://tinboats.net/forum/download/file.php?id=103010&sid=58839c690a8667cda0a4a71244e139a0&mode=view

The boat has a short, 15" transom but came with a 20" longshaft outboard. It worked okay but the Suzuki's cavitation plate was about 6" from the bottom of the boat. This caused lots of drag and poor performance from the engine. Rather than getting a short shaft engine, I had a 6" riser block built from aluminum and installed it. The cavitation plate is dead even with the bottom of the boat and it runs and rides flawlessly.
https://tinboats.net/forum/download/file.php?id=103011&sid=58839c690a8667cda0a4a71244e139a0&mode=view

Future modifications will likely be:
1. Adding carpeted floors in the rear and mid floor of the boat.
2. Upgrade the 15hp 2 stroke to a 20hp 4 stroke.

And all these mods, put a smile on my face!

My little boat is a 2003 Jetcraft. It's a 1925 Kingfisher model with a 90 Honda. It's unique because it has a radius bottom, instead of a delta pad. Although she's not super fast, she rides real nice. I cruise at 25 mph and it tops out at 34 at our local lake (around 3000') - If I'm headed up to the mountains or going to tow the kiddos around on the tube, I just change my prop out to a 4 blade.

I don't have a trolling motor - extra batteries, any cool electronics or down riggers (#goals). When we go Kok fishing, we just use divers, lead and tow buckets to slow us down. Seems to work OK. I definitely have more to learn. I also have the itch to get a trolling motor and upgrade the electronics..... I appreciate the info on this website, just found it last week, thank you quarantine. I don't know why I did do a web search for Kokanee fishing reports earlier!

Hope you slay um - boat safe! Cheers!

Just picked up a 2015 TJ Explorer 185/paired with a 2017 Yamaha VMax 150 SHO. The engine only had 13hrs on it when I picked it up in Idaho, I just did the 20hr service. The boat had never been fished out of and wasn't rigged to do so at all. But it didn't take my long to get all my gear swapped from my 04 Trophy. We've already had plenty of fishy adventures in it and are planning trips as I type. I'm still getting use to the ride, as it's much different from the heavy glass boat I came from.
