Is anyone planning to build new rods over the winter? I've got two Ugly stik blanks to finish for heavy use- dipseys and stripers maybe. Also planning to build one or two batson blanks for trout and kokes.101chromefish101

Just ordered a rainshadow rdr76L and will be building this rod next week. Going with the micro guides and spiral wrap.

Spanish those are sweet blanks I love the two I built. They've held up to a lot tough use.I wonder if any of the commercially made rods are built on them.101chromefish101

i need to learn rod repair at the least. how hard is it to wrap rods? i may at some time try to start from scratch and build a custom rod.

Rebelsportsman,101welcomw you should give it a try. Rod building is a blast. It will require some patients and some attention to detail to get a nice finished product, but with a little practice on an old broken rod you can get pretty good at wrapping a rod fairly quick. Get Tom Kirkmans rod building book and have at it. I will warn you though, that rod building can be very addicting.thumbsup

I agree rod building is not that difficult but you do need to take some time. Kirkmans book is a good place to start and you can go to mudhole and they have some videos to watch. They are also going to offfer a class in april I believe in Seattle and there are a few shops that I know offer classes.
