Took my godson Mikey out to Berry for some koke action. Hit the water round 7:45am and gave him a quick tutorial on how to read the sonar, running the downriggers, and baiting corn on the lures. Fortunately, my godson is comfortable around computers so running the sonar and cannons was a breeze for him. I was lucky that this year, Berry is a target rich lake so showing him what to look for was easy with the screen looking like this all day long:

I showed him how to set the rods out using the downriggers on the first two riggers then let him run the last two. While setting out the 3rd rigger, the 1st one gets slammed and it was koke on board within minutes of starting.

The action was steady all day, not wide open, but we had action until we quit. It's good to see marks on the sonar, having the marks react to your rigs, and then hooking up shortly after.

We caught fish in 65 to 95 feet of water with our rigs 45 to 65 down OTW. It was a pink and orange bite in the morning with pink hoochies and orange apexes working well. Blues worked well into the afternoon with lures such as blue RGT's, blue and purple apexes. Couldn't get a good spinner bite going although we did manage to hook a couple.

All in all, my godson had an awesome time and some fish for his parents.

My godson asked me to take him out again Sunday and I'm glad he did. The action was a little better and the quality was far far better.

Note: This is a 36qt cooler.

Both days we were blessed with good quality fish but Sunday kicked out the nice 18 inch fish I was looking for. Same color schemes and same depths. Boat traffic was pretty lite considering it was a 3 day holiday which was an added plus.

The big ones are in there. Go get em!

Good stuff and that kid has to be thrilled and now spoiled. You beat me to the report...hey can you edit my videos for me?

We had the same success as Al did with limits on Sunday. Hopefully I'll have my report up in a day or two with some 2lb hogs captured in the act.

awesomereport Way to spoil your godson Capt Al. It also lets him know there's a better quality of life than running the streets. Glad he enjoyed it. Now he's a pro that will teach you a thing or 2. thumbsup

I'm hoping to get a new derby partner out of him. Just have to teach him how to back up a trailer and pick out lures for the time of day and depth.
