If you look to the end of Newbies thread you will see a message and some pictures of the fish I caught at Wallowa Lake yesterday. Today I took a friend with me and we hit the lake at 0530 and picked up a few fish in the 17-21 inch range. By 1100 he had three in the boat and I had four and the wind was starting to pick up a little so we decided to call it a good day and headed for the launch at the north end. We trolled back and were within a 1/4 mile of the launch when I hooked number 5 for the day. I was trolling a wedding ring with shoepeg corn behind a Luhr Jensen Bolo and we were in 24 feet of water fishing about 18-20 feet deep. I knew the fish was big when it hit, but I had no idea just how big. When I got it into the boat we asked a nearby boat if they had a digital scale that I could borrow. We ended up sending the fish to the other boat via a net and they weighed the fish at 8.14 pounds but said they thought the scale weighed a little light. We got the fish back loaded the boat up and headed to Joseph to get the fish weighed on a certified scale. The outcome was 8.85 pounds which makes the fish a new Oregon State and U.S record. The fish was 26 inches long with a girth of 17 1/4 inches.1427

Hey Pimpler... Asumming you got a great fight out of it and how many runs from the net did it make and did you think it might be a Mack? I would not want to be the net guy/gal for a record fish... plus my California nets would not be big enough for that beast!

Within seconds of hooking the fish it made the first of four aerial displays and I definitely knew I had something special hooked up. The fish put up a pretty decent fight, but I think the jumps took a lot of the fight out of the fish and it actually came to the net fairly easily after about five minutes. My friend did a great netting job, but if the fish get any bigger I may be in the market for a larger net.

Pimpler! NICE FISH, MAN!

What kind of rod setup are you using? Ultra light stuff? I cannot imagine the bend in a ultra light rod! Fantastic fish!

Congratulations!

Congradulations, that is 1 big Kok. I fished at Wallowa 4/29 to 5/1 and managed to pick up 23" fish in the 5lb. range. I think that everyone who is saying that the world record will be broken form Wallowa this year is right.

Wow, this has me excited. My wife and I are going to be there this weekend, 5/15 through 5/17. Will be camped out at the campground if anybody want's to come by and say hi. Of course we will probably be on the water all day, but I'm really looking forward to this weekend. Woo Hoo....

Sthoge,

Was that you in the Trophy? I was with my father-in-law in the alumaweld. We didn't do as good as we hoped, but it was fun.

Yes, that was me and my wife in the Trophy. We had a great time, even though fishing was slow. Sunday was my B-day, and as it would be the only fish we caught was a 14incher on Sunday. It was great weather except for the wind on sunday. Being the first time we've been there, we really liked the campground.

While you guys went by in your larger boats, that was me in the 12 foot Trailorboat. Fishing was slow over the weekend, but I brought home a limit between 18-23 1/2 inches this morning after a thunderstorm last night. I also turned back four fish that were 15-18 inches and had three other nice fish up to the boat but couldn't get the net to work. It amazes me the difference a day can make. This morning was probably the best fishing I have ever had up there and I was home before 8 am.
