Now that I've made it over there and got into them.

well, I didnt land any to be specific,

But Ethan had em Rollin to the Net

Ethan went 16 for 18, Dad 3 for 3, and I went 0 for 1

We boxed 15 fat kokanee 15-16”, released 2 tiny kokes, released one tiny truck trout, and released one FAT Crappie.

Dad invited Ethan and I to Berryessa to try for our first 2010 landlock’s.

Dad had them patterned from last Wednesday, but said we shouldn’t expect too much, and that we should try to gettum early as it was early action then a lull, then maybe

Some here and there.

Markley was opened early when we got there at 5:30 for a Future Pro Tournament, and we were makin tracks through the narrows in the dark.

Mere minutes after Dad had his side set down and Before I could get rod 2 down, He was handing off to Ethan.

Aside from a Lull mid morning it was quite steady. Dad kept us over fish, and at the right speed 1.2-1.4, he and I ran the deck, and Ethan was the resident reeler until we boxed our 15th right at 1.

Mostly RMT dodgers and RMT Assasin Spinners & Squids, Pink/Purple Early, and and array of colors once the sun was up. Color wasn’t so much the key as was speed, depth and a long setback since the fish we enticed were at 7-16 feet. With the relentless rain we had, the lake is chock full of nutrients, and the two weeks of sun and warmth we got had the plankton bloomin BIG. These fish are Gorging on the stuff, and are right underneath it.

They are lengthy for Late March that is for sure, and as Fat as they are, I can only imagine their growth rate throughout this season. Not only that but they think they are bigger than they are – many of them were pulling off the clip imediately and flying from the surface before we could grab the rods – then they tested the smooth drags.

Didn’t deter Ethan…

I'd say locating them is the key. I've been out twice and picked up a couple each time. I've read the reports of some guys getting limits but it seems to be the exception and not the rule. I'm still looking for where they are stacked up at. Hopefully I'll find it pretty soon.

Awesome day of fishing!

I'm actually heading to the lake on Friday for the first time and was wondering where the best place to launch is.

This is an excellent post 101goodpost101. Whats with the limit sticks? Is that strictly a west coast thing? Here in intermountain west its all hands, the blood, the slime, the scales and fit all you can in one hand as I have in this pic. Its OK to share with other hand as well. nananana

thanks thumbsup

we ran mostly RMT dodgers in both 4.5 & 5.5 (with the exception of a 3/0 Sep's for the kings)
(and will for the kokes later in the season also) - mostly 4.5 this early though, in Oil slick, pink bahama, UV funky frog & Lime/Pink Fire-Ice - I dont think it mattered though, with the exception of a 3/0 Sep's for the kings
(and will for the kokes later in the season also)

yep, shoepeg soaked in garlic Pro Cure.

Roger, sticks or hands, you've clearly not learned the art of stretching your arms out for bigger fish to body ratio! laugh hyst

Dave, when I was younger, I would stretch out and hold those fish in front of the lense of a camera where you couldn't see me. Now I excercise my arms with a few cold ones so I can handle my fish and be seen. 101cheers101 nananana

I half suspected you to give some crappy excuse about your bad shoulder and holding that much weight out infront of you. As far as being seen, at least you've got the gut block figured out. laugh hyst

That gut block takes yrs to build and nothing to maintain. tongue2
