My son took a break from his last semester of college at the School of Mines in Golden and joined me for a day of Kokanee fishing at 11-mile reservoir on Presidents day 2/15. We fished north of Duck island in 70 FOW. We ended up with five kokanee, with a couple of good sized ones. Unfortunately through a mess up on our part we don't have photos to share. On the second kokanee my son hooked into it came to the ice hole real easy, we got a good look at it and then it was off to the races. The 18" kokanee he had on the line saw the hole and realized what was going on, it took off and kept going in one direction for what seemed like forever, the whole time the drag on the small ice reel a screaming. I don't know what was more exciting, how long the fish stripped off line or my son who kept saying "Oh Man, Oh Man" It was a beautiful day on the ice and a great day for a dad and his son to spend together.

By the way if anyone is looking to hire a mechanical engineer my son is graduating in May.

Now on to Saturday 2/20. I again fished 11-mile with some friends, this time we were at the north west end of the lake in only 10 - 11 FOW, the liquid water was 8 feet deep with 30 inches of ice on top. We were fishing for trout. In the first photo from the 20th the fish on the left is a Kokanee. It surprised me catching a Kokanee in this section of the reservoir. At this end of the reservoir the deepest water is only 30 feet and we were some distance from it. By noon when I called it day I caught 6 and kept 4, 3 trout and the one Kokanee. I may be going back to this spot next Saturday and if I do I will bring my Kokanee jigging machine just to see what happens.

Here is one photo from the 15th. A panorama my son took with his cell phone.

Good On Ya! I hope the lake is named 11 mile and that you didn't have to walk 11 mile!

How far is 11mile from Golden? We'll be heading to Golden from Flaming Gorge end of June, and we would love to check out a new lake before heading down to Heron Lake in New Mexico.

Booked reservations for the North Shore campground at 11 Mile for the end of June. We'll head there after a week at Flaming Gorge; then it's on to Heron Lake & then Navajo Lake in New Mexico. This is a RVing/Fishing vacation!!!
