My uncle came down from Montana for a few days of koke fishing. We took him to Buckboard and Middle Marsh. Found plenty of kokes on the sonar, but the fishing was definately not as fast as it was when he came down in June. But, we still managed between 15-25 kokes each morning... can't complain! The kokes were mostly in the 3# range with some running up to the mid 4's. Plenty of hook jawed males for the grill too. Fishing was best between 5-8am before it got so warm. Still managed fish in the late morning... but not too fast. Best rigs were RMT uv pink flash serpent spoons behind nickel crushed glow dodgers. Hyper glow pink hot head serpent spoons also did very well (especially before the sun hit the water).

Probably get out one more time before the bow hunt starts... can't believe summer is nearing an end!

Right on.... ,nice report Brett.. The fishing has changed in the last month, different tactics and presentations are a must to be successful. The so called bite is turning off about 9am and many fisherman leave the water. We have been finding ,that changing our presentations as the sun get higher, will still produce some nice fish. We have been catching fish into the late afternoon, when we call it a day.The early spawners, are starting to school up,and the males are in a fighting mood. Kinda like the pre -rut .

What type of changes are you making?

We are changing how deep we are fishing, dropping lower into the water column. We switch to spoons, after the squids have run their course in the morning hours. Some times the color with still be the same, some times the color will change too. We then come back to the areas that were hit hard in the morning. It seems that after we have given the fish a chance to regroup, they want to play some more. We will start to change our speed, often trolling faster then we did in the early a.m.
