Hitchhicking to the Gorge ?

Terri and I met up with Captain John Thursday evening 7-24, in Green River in Wyoming. We shared Mexican food and met the rest of his posse.
Members included:

Captain John
Jim = SLFF = Short Little Friendly Fellow ?
Jerry
Don
George

They discussed the days fishing and Friday morning’s strategies. Motel Departure was set at 4:30, for a 5:00 launch at Buckboard.
Captain John motored his 19’ Jet Craft South, to the Pipeline using his Fishfinder’s GPS in the predawn darkness.

Captain John will be refered to as CJ from here on out, is at the helm.
CJ dropped 2 Apex’s to 45’ & 55’ behind RMT Splatter Sling Blades with Apex's. Both using Lamiglass rods with Shimmano Calcutta reels.
I dropped a Fish With Gary Mega Darth, with matching spinner, lubed with Pro Cure Kokanee Special to 50'.
Terri stacked a RMT Pink and Silver Sling blade with a Dennis Feckner Red Lil'l Hustler tube to 40'.
CJ's Apex was the first to get hit, on CJ's orders; I reeled in a nice 18" Rainbow, netted by Terri.
Now with the skunk off the boat, my Shasta Tackle Rod pops from the clip, and begins to pump. During a couple of Reel screaming runs, One of John's rods goes off, it's a double. CJ has Terri get the rod as he steers the boat. Soon a couple of 3.5 lb Flaming Gorge Kokanee yield to CJ's net. My FWG's Mega Darth strikes pay dirt again.

For the next couple of hours, we traded honors reeling in the Kok's as Captain John keeps us on the bite.
CJ had one request at dinner the night before. He wanted to try out his underwater camera and get a Flaming Gorge Kok being netted. With his partner a "No Show" back in Calif, we were more than happy to try to fill CJ's request and "No Shows" seat.
It looked sweet on the camera…

With 6 Koks and 1 bow in our box, we still are on the hunt. A couple of drive by taps but nothing seems to stick. Then a huge dip on Terri's pole, she turns to Captain John and says "You want some of this?" He leaves the helm to start reel'n
a really nice Rainbow. It came on the Dennis Feckner Lil'l Hustler Tube.
The weigh in, 4.1 lb, 23".

A very threatening black Thunder Head that has been building to the East is now approaching. We call it a day and head for Buckboard Marina. The Boats are loaded on the trailers, as this is their last day after a week of Gorge'n on Kokanee Wyoming style.
We just beat the Squall as it hit the Marina. Winds picked up to 30 mph, with 2' white caps at the ramp. It ripped awnings off RV's and blew tents around like a beach balls. Mega Rain pounded down as we cleaned fish under the cover of the cleaning station. As quick as it came, it left.
