Finally, I made it up to Porcupine. My neighbor and I got on the water about 9 AM. It was like glass and there was not a cloud to be seen anywhere. The air temperature was around 70 and the water temperature was about 63.

We started fishing with Rapalas on the surface and RMT dodgers with a squid and a spotted Curley’s Lure at about 20 feet down. Fish on in less than 10 minutes – Tom’s very first kokanee ever out of Porcupine, a very nice 13 incher. About 15 minutes later I put one in the boat. Good start to a great day.

Packfan showed up around 10 to 11 AM. Said ‘Hello’ in passing as we trolled by them. They were catching some as well. I hope your out of town guests had as good a time as we did.

It came and went throughout the day and we ended up catching 16 fish – all kokanees. We only lost 3 at the boat, so we ended up with 13 in the live well. The browns that Porcupine is noted for did not want to play at all. We finally quit around 3 PM and headed home. My bride and I cooked 2 of the catch for supper last night. Way better than trout. The others were put in storage for some smoking in a couple of weeks. I’m betting those will be even better to eat.

Here’s Tom with his first Porcupine kokanee.

Here’s the tally for the day for two of us.
