Up at 2 last sat after a family BBQ fri night till 11 in Sacto, and Dad and I were off to Don Pedro to try our hand at the KP kokanee Derby there.
Easy pickens from first light through mid morning on cookie cutter 12” fish. When I say cookie cutter, I mean within tenths of an inch, every fish we caught – Jeeez!
They would fool us though, 12” kokes don’t usually stay straight under the boat, peel line numerous times and fight all the way to the net.
Then the 14” king Really fooled us! A kokanee of the same weight included in our 3 fish sack would’ve had us in the top 5 probably.
We had best interest on glow red stuff, radical glow tube with a pink splatter UV RMT Assassin blade in front of it, behind a big 3/0 Sep’s starlight Dodger was my koke gitter of the day.

45-60’ in these areas held fish with 52-56 being best throughout the morning once the sun was up.

We rolled shad from 70-90’ to try for an entry fish into the big king side pot. For… One miss, and another 14”er… that aint gonna do it.
(there were a few 5+ lbers checked in)

Ended with our tenth unreleasable at around noon or so
after catching 12 kokanee and 2 kings

Hehehe we joked about how we didn’t think until later that we shouldve waited to hose the slime off until we separated our three fish sack.
These fish had some especially excessive slime going over there. Crazy slime.

The grub at the weigh in was some good tri tip sammiches, chicken, salad & chili…
And
The tri tips & burgers at Tara’s parents for her birthday Saturday evening were supplemented with 20 cedar plank grilled mini salmon fillets

Good Times! Thanks Dad!

Now that's a full report. I wanted to stop by and talk to you guys post weigh-in but got caught up derby stuff. That is a sweet looking net and it looks like it is smaller rubber than most. Let us know the brand if you can.

I'll tag on with my delinquent 12 incher report and add the following:

I had Kokemachine (Robbie) on board with me this year as the kids were double booked. We had a very productive fish catching day but trying to get fish beyond 12 inches was the real challenge. One nice rainbow came to us as well in the 16-17 inch class but we let him go back to grow up some more. We fished the Graveyard area most of the day as it was tough to leave fish to find fish but we did make it around Jenkins hill and east towards Fleming Bay where a fleet was working.

Depths were 48 to 61. It was pretty much a "pink" experience for us which included:

Pink RGT Hoochie Mama
RMT Pink UV Squid Spinner
RMT Pink / White Assassin Spinner
RMT Pink Chartreuse Spinner
Pink Apex
Pink Double Trouble Spinner
Chartreuse RGT
Orange Apex

All of these combined with Sep's 3/0 and Vance's dodgers and a sling blade in there for good measure. Scents I actually limited this trip to some Garlic and Carp Spit.
