The 75mi drive turned into a mess as the last 40mi was thru mountains. The brunt of the storm that came thru left some lingering showers and very slick roads. When I got to the lake, the clouds only hovered over the mountains and gave way to some blue sky to go with this big blue body of water. The wind was only slight which didn't play a factor into control. Surface temps was running at 37F which the fish were down 50+ feet. Lake trout very visible on graph at much deeper depths.

I managed 1 4lb Cutt. After spending much of the day throwing every presentation I could and finally got one that worked. But unfortunately it was at the time to pack it in. Tomorrow the gathering and the scouting run is done. Gonefishing and company put 2 Cutts in the boat before I left. Kokaholic & Agitator made it up late in the afternoon and will hit it tomorrow. Looking fwd to seeing the rest of the group. I will be bringing Petty4life with me.

That looks like great fishing conditions for that lake to me Roger.

The gathering started out calm but on the cool side. We had a couple of no shows but the fun went on. Not many fish were caught but the quality of fish was there. A nice Cutt caught by Jason from my boat. Agitators boat had a couple and gonefishing is smiling from reaping the benefits of bent rods with wrist exercise. I was on the east side when we got the word the big "W" started blowing fiercely on the west and that we should start heading towards the marina. Got about half way across a 7mi journey when speed dropped from 30mph to just keeping the nose up and a snails pace. Holy crap we got into some ferocious 3-5 foot swells. The "W" cleared all vessels off the lake. We must have had near 40mph+ gusts if not higher. All made it off of the lake safely. We did manage some quality lake time until 11am. Our brat luck(potluck) went on up against a building used as a wind brake. Looking fwd to the fall gathering.

Was a great trip. Damn wind made it a little to ruff to fish at the end. Good to meet some new folks and see good friends again.

We were wishing that we could have been there , but I am going to be there all next week. I'm hoping for some good weather and I hope some good fishing.

Yes, indeed, it was worth the trip even though the wind cut things a bit short.

Maybe the down rigger I donated will appease the BL gods and they'll provide a smooth lake let me get a couple fish next time

BTW, anyone got a Uni troll 5 they don't need?

Oh well, live and learn, though not exactly sure what I learned. Maybe to take the down riggers completely off when expecting weather like we had? The base looked OK, and not a mark on the boat, and maybe the bottom of rigger just broke and over it went? Guess maybe just another small rockpile for us to fish.

Looking forward to seeing all again at BL or the Gorge.

A little side funny happened in my boat, I butt dialed Jason with my phone while he was seated next to me. Must have been important.

Hi guys , well I didn't get up to Bear Lake until Sunday afternoon due to a family issue. I've been up here all week and the fishing has been almost non-existent , snow everyday or some other kind of weather. Also the winds have been bad enough that I couldn't control the boat with the trolling motor , tried fishing again today with the same results. We marked lots of fish , but most of what we saw was hanging around 20 feet deep. We trolled all around the rock pile area changed our depth from 60 ft. to 40 ft. with no takers. There just wasn't much activity at all this week. I guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching LOL

Got my new personal best cutt out of Big Blue this year. Love it there when it is good, and hate it when its bad. Coolest fish in the state.

Just got an on lake report from the Agitator. He is spending a couple of days at the KOA in Garden City and within a few minutes after launch hooked into a nice Cutt on the east side of lake. I have an appt tomorrow but thinking of rescheduling it to hit the big blue.

Made a surprise visit to the big blue. Headed straight across the lake and marked a lot of fish but couldn't get any takers. Talked to Agitator over radio and he was getting fish in the boat. I relocated 7mi to his location near the Rockpile. Wasn't long before nailing a brute. Put a 20lb laker in the boat. Also put a small 1 1/2lb cutt in the boat. That's all I caught for the day but I'm happy. I was really surprised at seeing the cutt had the color blue, normally I wouldn't bother with a pic.

I love the color of the water in that lake, I just don't love that lake. Nice job on the toad Roger. Is it getting close to the time when they start netting the bait fish there?

Roger, are you making jointed plugs now, or just switching up a bit?

There's our oxymoron statement of the day! LOL! Rooster, when the kids get a little older, you just start working on the wife that a bigger, faster boat would be fun for the kids. Short of winning the lottery, it the only way we get a nice boat. LOL!
