    Default Lake Stevens 2014

As Winter digs its teeth in to hang around a few more months, I often find myself day dreaming of the sunny spring and summer days filled with Kokanee fishing. Then I remember you can fish for them year around!

Kokanee fishing in the winter requires a new set of tactics and a whole new mindset about getting these little rockets to bite. Long set backs and lots of speed changes.

I started out the day at o-dark-thirty trolling in 80-100 feet of water in the North east part of the lake. Right of the bat I mark a few fish at 50-55', one rigger at 45' and the other at 50' Shallow one goes of first, fish comes undone, then the deep rods goes off and this one stuck. After a nice little battle a healthy 12" Koke hit the net. This continued off and on for the next 3 hours with fish coming between 25-55' deep. On one rod I had a Arrow flash dodger and a R&K pink/glow/purple hoochie with a chrome blade. The other rod had a pink splatter dick night and a Pink Kokaneekid Dakokanee spinner (coming soon) Both bait with shoepeg corn and DNA scent.

    Trolling speed-1.1-1.9
    Water temp 42.9 degrees

Final for the day, 8 fish hooked and 6 fish boat. I love Kokanee fishing!! Fish were a little skinny but they had full bellies. Hoping for some 17-18" fish this year again!

Thanks for the report. Way to get out there and go after them!!!!! I go crazy if I'm off the water for too long so I've been known to chase Koks in the winter myself. :-)
